Beauty of West Sumatra, Indonesia (3/7)

Hey Humans

26 December 2011,

My second morning and guess what?! I went scuba diving. It was my first try, so I was a bit scared, and gosh it was so heavy. Marco was the instructor who taught me and my brother to dive. he taught the basics like how to remove and put water in the mask, and worst of all but very important, we had to get the regulator (the thing we use for breathing) off our mouth then let it go, then there’s these steps to get the regulator (fast and easy with no stress or panic) back on.

There’s this rule I remember, what we have to do and never forget this, NEVER HOLD YOUR BREATH. It was fun, but every time he deflate my BC/BCD (Buoyancy Compensator/Buoyancy Control Device) I would freak out, but it was fun once I got in the water. Since we can’t talk underwater, we did some sign language.

How I love looking at fishes and corals so near and clear. It’s much clearer to dive than just snorkeling. Me and my brother had some problems with our ears, so once we go deeper, our ears would hurt. My brother got up first cause he can’t go deeper than me, he just got a cold. And I couldn’t go untill 5m, I’ll work on it the next time I dive. Since my dad could dive, he’s gonna teach me soon, I hope. I want to get a diving certificate.

Getting started to dive, we’re Swimming backwards.
Casually peeking underwater

So as I promised, I wanted to go up the hill again. And yes, I did! A bit of the trek was different, I think its because it was raining last night. Some trees fell down and a it was a little muddy. But when I got up, the view? Very great! It was worth a climb. A quote that I know “Life’s a climb, but the view is great” – Hannah Montana The Movie.

Black Magic by Little Mix

[Weekly Jam]

Hey Humans!

This weeks ‘Weekly Jam’ would be Black Magic by Little Mix. This song is so catchy and honestly I’m usually skeptical on songs these days, but Little Mix members has great voices! They all have their own unique voice and I love them. But the lyrics to this song….. To me it doesn’t really sums up, and like what the hell? Black magic on love? But the music video shows more on how we all have power, and they showed that bullies are just mean.

Overall I’m not so fond on the lyrics, but when you sing it you don’t really think of the lyrics. So, I love the melody and how it’s so catchy!

Safe Haven

Hey Humans!

Life is always running, whether you’re in a hurry or chilling, the world is ticking in the same pulse. But it’s weird how the older you get, the faster life feels like. It’s because we’re busy minding our own business more than when we were younger. The older we get, new experiences, new habits, new lifestyle comes to place. While I get busy, it means I get less time to make time with my family, especially my parents.

To some people having their own life and leaving home is such an excitement. To me it is, but it doesn’t make it easy for me every time I leave home. As a child I was fortunate enough to have such loving parents who let me do and be the person I want to be. Now that it’s actually ‘the time’ for me to be the person I want to be, it makes me miss a lot of what I left back at home. I don’t know if this is just me, but a lot of times I feel home sick, but I can’t come home! I have duties that I have to finish back at where my life is now directed to. I know my parents completely understand that I’m busy on my studies, but I don’t want to understand the fact that time is running and it will never stop! We are all growing, and some day hopefully I’ll raise a family of my own.

My parents have shown me the best example of being a parent, even though I’ve had my ups and downs with them, but that’s what’s important! I’ll never learn if I have never gone through the worst. Home is my safe haven. Home is where I can gather with my family and chill like we used to always do. I used to take it for granted when I was a child, and I feel so stupid for not cherishing more of those moments when I got them everyday. I have just realized all of this in this past year, I used to be a very ignorant child. But hey, better late than never!

I’m so proud of all our accomplishments in the family. Everyone has done their hard work and are getting to where we all have aimed. Today are my parents 25th Wedding Anniversary, and I couldn’t be more proud to be their daughter along with my brother. Home is always a place I want to be, home is my safe haven.

Beauty of West Sumatra, Indonesia (Day 2/7)

Hey Humans!

25 December 2011,

Since we’re staying in Cubadak Island for 3 nights, this is just our first morning. Today, we’re just going snorkeling. I wanted to see more corals and fishes, so I went a little further today. We also went canoeing, and I went on the paddle board; it was so much fun. After all the fun, we had lunch. Like I said before, the cuisine is fantastic here!

Did I mention there’s a hill? So there’s this hill, and there’s a track to go up there, we thought it would be fun to go up, but gosh it was so steep. But trust me the track was not all bad! There were also nice grasses along the track. It was almost 5pm when we started to go, in the middle of the track I started to worry it’d rain and it’s getting dark, so half way I gave up and went back down the hill with my mom. My brother and dad still went up. I really did regret not going up the hill, so I had to get back up the next day.

Oh right, since today is the 25th of December, its Christmas!! Merry Christmas!!

How To Keep Yourself Calm

Hey Humans!
It can be quite tiring having to come home from school, university, work, or where ever you’ve been bringing problems. And when you do nothing about it, stacking all your problems everyday can turn into depression or stress! This being said, there are a few ways to keep your mind and soul calm.

  1. What is it you’re so fussed about? Think about it… Is it really worth thinking over and over again. If it was something you did wrong, is thinking over and over again going to change the past? Because it can’t, what has happened, happened. You can only learn from it, because you can’t be the person you are today, realizing what’s right or wrong, without making mistakes!
  2. What makes you relaxed? Keep your environment nice and fresh. Take a nice cold shower, a relaxing bath, or make your room fresh filled with your favorite scented candle, aromatherapy, or flowers. This really works well for me. When I need some time to think I turn the lights off my room, turn on my fairy lights, and light a nice candle (this is exactly what I’m doing while writing this post!). If you can’t do any of these, not to worry, simply find a comfy spot and think for awhile there. You can shut your eyes, control your breathing in a nice steady pulse.
  3. None of these is going to effect you? If this thing is a problem to you, why are you keeping it as a problem? If it is what you must do, it is for the better. Imagine where you’ll be after all of your problem is done. You’ll never regret having it as a problem in the first place! But if the problem won’t give you or neither anyone else benefit in the end, eliminate your problem.

I think that is all of what I can currently think of.. I hope this helps anyone who is reading to keep yourself a better well-being. If you have any ideas, please don’t be shy to leave a comment!

Beauty of West Sumatra, Indonesia (Day 1/7)

Hey Humans!

24 December 2011,

We arrived in “Bandar Udara Internasional Minangkabau” (you could see in the picture, it’s not a really big airport). A driver from “Cubadak Island” was already waiting for me and my family. We went straight to the island, and got some “Keripik Sanjai” (which are chips from Padang) on the way. It took about 2-3 hours to get to the dock, so I had to chew something on the way. When we got to the dock, we hopped on a speed boat to the island where we were staying.

When I saw the ocean, the first thing I said to my mom “This is the best way to start a holiday”. The ocean was so beautiful and clean. Once I got to the island, it was nice, peaceful, quite, and once again; beautiful. The view was great (I highly recommend this place). Just in time, it was lunch time; so we got lunch. The cuisine here was great, it’s their specialty. I usually don’t eat much, but I can’t refuse the food here.

After lunch, we got to our bungalow and had a rest after a very long trip. Then, we went straight to the sea! Of course we went snorkeling, we couldn’t miss that, and my parents went canoeing.

The people here were very welcome and nice. A lot of people from other countries stay here, my family were the only Indonesians (other than the helpers around the island).

Cubadak’s view from left to right. On the right is the pier of Cubadak, it’s where people go snorkeling/diving and go on/off the boat.
Our 4 bed, 2 stories bungalow. Very nice and comfy.

Staying After Goodbyes

Hey Humans!

As you may or may not know, I am now a university student. And I have been studying for a year. I miss my high school moments with my friends. What was really tough was leaving and having to find new friends. This quote was my yearbook quote, and I am so lucky to still have friends that supports me after high school. They are the people I come to when I feel lonely, and I would do the same for them.

For those of you who are still in high school, I really just want to tell you, make the most out of it! One day you’ll sit back and remember all those cocky jokes back in high school, and missing all those crazy moments you had on recess with your friends. Also the times you got to hang out while talking about the most random stuff. Once you get into university, there’s not much of that left. The best thing is to keep in touch with your mates back at home.

Fight Song by Rachel Platten

Hey Humans!

This is a new segment for my blog called ‘Weekly Jam’ where I will tell you my current fave jams for the week.

This week is ‘Fight Song’ by Rachel Platten. I love the message to this song, and I really wish that this song was out back when I had my toughest times, yet. This song is yelling out to all those people to believe in yourself, whatever you feel or your problems are, fight for it! Everyone has a voice, so use that voice! You matter in this world, and no one can be the ‘you’ you are right now, so make the best of it. You are strong, you just have to believe it.

Smooth Skin Trick

Hey Humans!

I’ve had the worst dry skin ever! I just don’t have the time to spare a 10 minute skin care routine for scrubbing, lotions, butters, toners, that is just ridiculous! But…. But… BUT! I have been doing something amazing that has helped drastically in just a few days, and it’s sooo cheap! TRUST ME IT WORKS!

So what is this thing I’m so happy with?! BABY OIL! Yes, it might sound ridiculous but it has helped moisturize my skin more than lotions I’ve used daily. How do I apply it? Simple, apply right out of shower or bath. Don’t towel dry your skin after shower, while your body is still damp apply your baby oil. You don’t need much, it will spread nicely because your skin is damp. Another reason for why on a damp skin? You won’t get the sticky feel of oil on your skin, and it absorbs nicely in your skin! I apply to every body part I possibly can including my face. You can take as much baby oil as you want though. When you’re done, towel dry your skin. It’s a nice smooth drying process. VOILA! Softer skin in a jippy. Apply everytime you shower and you’ll have the softest skin.

I hope this helps for those who have problems with dry skin. I got this trick from beauty guru Tanya Burr, she’s amazing by the way.

Syra 🙂
